This is the post modification picture of my 3500.  Instead on discarding the spacers and replacing the bolts, I moved the spacers to the top of the spring pack and re-used the factory hardware.  After assembling the spring pack, lower the truck on the axle and reinstall the U-bolts.  By moving the spaces to the top of the stack, all original parts are available should the truck owner decide to de-mod the truck.

Some of you smart readers may be wondering if the limits of the drive line and shock absorbers might be exceeded after performing this modification.  Note that in the above picture, there is a rubber stop attached to the truck frame that is designed to touch the axle under heavy loads.  This leads me to believe that the shock and drive line limits are designed for the full travel the rubber stop allows.  This modification reduces the total travel of the springs, but not the final limit.  Since the load capacity of a truck with a CTD, quad-cab, and 4WD are significantly reduced because of the high empty weigh of the truck (most of which is on the front axle), this should not be a problem.
